Description

Vehicle Specs

The original Lincoln Continental was created because of a trip Edsel Ford took to Europe in 1938. On his return, Edsel asked designer Bob Gregorie to design a one-off custom convertible for his own use that captured the sporty feel of European cars of the time. The design, based on a much-modified Lincoln Zephyr was so impressive that it evolved into the production 1940 Continental. This 1948 Lincoln Continental Convertible is the post-World War II evolution of that design and preserves the classic custom styling of the original. The 125-inch wheelbase chassis uses rigid front and rear axles supported by transverse leaf springs and Monroe double-acting shock absorbers. The engine is a 292 CI 45-degree flathead V-12 equipped with a single dual downdraft carburetor producing 125 HP at 3,600 RPM. The V-12 is connected through a single-disc clutch to a column-shifted 3-speed manual transmission with synchronized second and high gears. A closed torque-tube driveshaft sends power to a spiral bevel-gear differential. The 4,135-pound Continental is supported by Firestone wide whitewall tires on 15-inch painted steel wheels with chrome-plated wheel covers and trims rings. The brakes are of the Bendix hydraulic-drum type. The body of this restored Continental is finished in gloss black and accented with a black power-operated convertible top with red trim, dual wipers, standard rear-fender skirts, fender stone guards, and the iconic rear deck-mounted spare tire. The grille carries dual amber fog lamps and both the front and rear chrome-plated bumpers are equipped with massive bumper guards. The interior of this Continental is finished in red leather with red carpets. The instrument-panel trim is gold anodized, and the windows are power-operated. The 1948 Lincoln Continental is recognized as a CCCA Full Classic, and this is one of only 1,650 built for the 1948 model year.

Please Note: Clear NJ Title - Vin:967H561289 Body Number: 876H-56-1081 Chassis #: 8H182054
A Metal Plate is affixed to the firewall with the above numbers. Normally a 1948 lincoln is titled by the Chassis number on the frame which is clear and reads 8H182054 but we believe the car must have been in a state where a VIN plate was required and one was installed to clearly see a vin. We have a clean NJ title in our name and the car was previously sold at MECUM and was no issue.
