Few cars capture the mystique of late-80s turbocharged performance quite like a Buick Grand National, and this exceptionally preserved 1987 example offers both originality and tasteful upgrades in a very low-mile package. Showing only 24,207 original miles since new and supported by a clean Carfax with recorded mileage, this car has had just three owners over its lifetime and has clearly lived a careful, garage-kept existence. A car cover is included and the ownership history is well documented, reinforcing the level of preservation seen throughout the vehicle.
Power comes from the legendary intercooled 3.8L Turbo V6, a platform famous for its effortless torque and surprising performance even by modern standards. This particular car benefits from mild, intelligently chosen upgrades performed by Jim Dunn of Turbo Performance, aimed at improving reliability and drivability without compromising the character of the car. Upgrades include 42 lb injectors, a replaced fuel tank paired with a Turbo Tweak 55 lb fuel pump, a 3-bar MAP sensor, heavy-duty valve springs from Kirban Performance, and a 160-degree thermostat. A stainless one-piece downpipe and a full Pypes exhaust system enhance breathing and sound while the original downpipe and catalytic converter are included. A pillar-mounted boost gauge is installed using Velcro so it can be removed without permanent alteration.
The exterior presents extremely well, finished in black with a professional repaint on the top surfaces that shows excellent while maintaining the proper Grand National appearance. T-tops add to the driving experience and the car has received new headliner material around the openings along with new sun visors. Front and rear bumper fillers have been replaced with durable Spool Fool units, eliminating one of the common cosmetic weaknesses of these cars. The power antenna has also been rebuilt using a steel cable for long-term reliability.
Inside, the cabin remains largely original and very authentic to the period. The original seats and door panels remain in place and present nicely, complemented by replacement carpeting and factory GM floor mats. The original radio is still installed, preserving the stock look and feel enthusiasts appreciate. Altogether the interior retains the unmistakable atmosphere of a low-mile Grand National while being clean and comfortable for regular enjoyment.
Combining extremely low mileage, documented ownership, careful storage, reversible upgrades, and tasteful maintenance improvements, this Grand National delivers the best balance of originality and usability. It starts easily, runs strong, and is ready for cruising, shows, or the next local car meet — exactly what a properly kept turbo Buick should be.
