Description

Vehicle Specs

This 1955 Ford Thunderbird Roadster is a beautifully restored example of America's original personal luxury sports car — a car that helped define the 1950s with its elegant styling and V8 power. This Thunderbird was fully restored between 2002 and 2003 and has since earned prestigious awards including an AACA Senior National First Prize in 2004 and a Grand National First Prize in 2006, validating the high quality of its restoration and attention to authenticity.

Powered by its correct 292 cubic inch “Thunderbird Special” V8 engine (block number ECZ-6015 A), this T-Bird retains its original character while running exceptionally well. The engine breathes through its proper teapot-style carburetor and is backed by a 3-speed manual transmission that sends power to a Dana 44 rear end with a 3.20:1 gear ratio. The car's mechanical systems are in excellent order, with power steering and power-assisted 4-wheel drum brakes ensuring smooth and confident operation. Under the hood, the presentation is tidy and period-correct, complete with Thunderbird Special valve covers and a red-top Optima 6-volt battery.

The exterior is finished in its factory E-code Snowshoe White and still shows beautifully today, a testament to the quality of the restoration more than two decades later. The car includes both its matching hard top and a black cloth soft top, offering versatility and style in any driving condition. Inside, the early-build B-code red and white interior presents beautifully, featuring a working factory AM radio, 4-way power seat option, and fully functional gauges including tachometer, fuel, temperature, and speedometer.

This Thunderbird rides on classic wide whitewall tires and features period-correct chrome accents that remain bright and well-kept. A folder of receipts accompanies the car, providing documentation of the restoration and maintenance work completed over the years. Minor scratches where the hardtop mounts can be seen upon close inspection, but overall, this car still presents at an award-winning level.

A true first-generation icon, this '55 Thunderbird combines timeless design, desirable options, and verified show history. Restored over 20 years ago and still showing great today, it's a turn-key example that runs and drives beautifully — a car that can be proudly shown, enjoyed, and driven with confidence. A must-see classic for any enthusiast seeking one of the most celebrated cars of the 1950s.
